PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) celebrated its golden jubilee, marking an impressive five-decade journey through the real estate industry. This milestone reflects MIEA's enduring commitment to excellence, innovation and leadership in shaping Malaysia's real estate landscape.
In conjunction with its 50th Anniversary, MIEA hosted a celebration dinner to honour past presidents, committees, council members and stakeholders who have contributed to the success of the institution over the years. The occasion was held at Avante Hotel in Bandar Utama on May 11, 2024.
"As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on the extraordinary journey of the Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents. For five decades, MIEA has passionately championed the cause of our members, which is one of MIEA’s primary commitments enshrined in the very fabric of our Constitution. At MIEA, we proudly acknowledge that each successive president and his team of board of directors have built upon the initiatives and efforts of their predecessors, leading to the remarkable growth we experience today,” said MIEA president Tan Kian Aun during his speech.
“Therefore, we are excited to celebrate this momentous occasion with our members who have served the Institute selflessly and tirelessly, especially those from the early days. Our 50th anniversary is not just a celebration of our past achievements but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to shaping the future of the real estate industry in Malaysia. And we stand tall, immensely proud of our achievements and the profound impact we have made on the industry,” he added.
Established in 1974, MIEA’s extraordinary journey can be seen in the following kaleidoscope of notable activities. Since 1986, MIEA has been hosting the Malaysian Annual Real Estate Convention (MAREC) annually which brings in reputable, knowledgeable speakers from local and overseas to share their wealth of knowledge and latest innovations about the real estate industry. The latest 38th MAREC convention was held on March 6 and 7, 2024.
Back in 2000, MIEA organised the Asia Pacific Regional Real Estate Convention and Exposition (APRRECE 2000) in collaboration with the National Association of Realtors (NAR), which successfully attracted real estate practitioners from various countries in the Asia Pacific Region and America. In the same year, MIEA was also awarded the International Outreach Effort Award by NAR. Another headline was made in 2018 when MIEA’s then-president became the first Malaysian to be appointed as a capable member of the Board of Directors of NAR.
In 2023, MIEA was given the Asia Pacific Leadership – Business Excellence Award by KSI Strategic Institute For Asia Pacific in their 6th Asia Economic and Entrepreneurship Summit 2023.
“Looking ahead to the next 50 years, MIEA remains steadfast in its mission to be united, relevant and progressive in the real estate profession. With a proud legacy behind it and a vision for the future, MIEA is poised to continue leading the way towards a vibrant and sustainable real estate sector in Malaysia,” said Tan.
