KOLs add spice to Sunway Property’s sharing of the Year of the Ox celebration
The Chinese New Year has always been seen as a time of bonding since time immemorial. From the eve, which is signified by the gathering of families and close relatives during reunion dinner, to the 15th day, the equivalent of Valentine’s Day for the Chinese community.
The two-week celebration is observed just about every corner in the world where the Chinese reside but in Malaysia, it is truly unique as it involves all races.
This is because being Malaysians, everyone always gathers around to share three fundamental pillars: Eat, Play and Live.
Chinese New Year is one of the four most celebrated festivals in Malaysia, along with Hari Raya, Deepavali and Christmas. It is a time of enjoying good food, sharing quality times and celebrating prosperity together.
But the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent movement control (MCO) orders to curb the spread of the contagious virus has curtailed this yearly gathering of families and friends.

Several Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) are joining in Sunway Property’s Treasures of Togetherness drive to share their enthusiasm in keeping the celebratory mood high.
Influencers Gaston Pong, Mark O’dea and Alicia Tan have joined the ranks with the sharing of their viral clips on how they are ushering in the Year of the Ox alongside Sunway Property’s theme. They are also encouraging their followers to share how they are celebrating the occasion while being apart with the #MyTreasuresofTogetherness hashtag.

Sunway Property hopes to spread and share the Chinese New Year festivities with everyone virtually. As long as everyone plays a part in keeping the tradition alive, there is no reason why the treasures of happiness, prosperity and joyful memories with loved ones cannot be shared.
To usher in the Year of the Ox, the master community developer started pre-celebrations with weekly online contests inspired by Treasures of Togetherness, with the final instalment of the eat, play, and live series - #MemoriesBetterShared, that ended on Feb 5.
The #MemoriesBetterShared series is all about getting the Sunway Property followers to share a happy throwback photo of themselves and their family. One of the winners Umadevi Vengdesh shared a nostalgic photo of herself (above) and her family members with the message that she will miss the ang pows from her parents, not for the money, but for the age-old tradition and blessings that go alongside the red packets.
Each of the weekly winning entries was gifted with RM50 in various eCredit formats respectively and the grand prize winner who participated in all three contests walked away with a Dyson Pure Cool Me worth RM1,699.
Paying tribute to frontliners
Staying true to the spirit of togetherness, Sunway Property gathered all of their staff to show their support towards the frontliners who are risking their lives to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Clad in T-shirts at home, staff members held their fist up as a sign of support. Several staff, including Sunway Property managing director Sarena Cheah, held up hand-drawn alphabet placards to compose an encouraging message, “You are why we are together as one”, to the frontliners.
This was incorporated into an image that was shared on Sunway Property’s social media page, which also consists photos of frontliners that were collected during the #MyCommunityHeroes campaign.
Through this, Sunway Property hopes to convey the message that as a nation we are all in this together and that the hardwork and efforts of these frontliners are the reasons why we should act as one, and together, help to prevent the further spread of this virus.
