KUALA LUMPUR: As part of a collective effort by Sunway Malls’ New Hope Charity Drive to help the flood victims and continuation of the #KitaSupportKita campaign, Sunway Velocity Mall’s A Place To Call Home encouraged the community to come on board to donate items for the flood victims.
"As we start the year in discovering ourselves on what truly matters during this pandemic, let us not forget those who are in need during these worrying times.
"This has thought all of us to persevere, stay calm, care for our loved ones and share what we have to those who are deprived of their daily necessities," said Sunway Velocity Mall general manager Phang Sau Lian.
In hope to bring a sense of happiness and reassurance, Sunway Velocity Mall donated over RM8,000 worth of much-needed items which was collected since Jan 20, 2021, and to continue until Feb 28, 2021.
Sunway Velocity Mall also collaborated with The Swap Project as part of a sustainability effort to provide clean preloved clothes for this good cause.
Together with Malaysian Red Crescent, the donated items that were greatly needed such as diapers, cleaning materials, mineral water, canned food, and many more were transported to the flood victims to rebuild their homes.
“This initiative wouldn’t be a success without the help of Sunway Velocity Mall’s community who is always ever ready to help those in need.
"Many families were affected badly in the flood disaster besides the pandemic that hit our nation. We are forever grateful for the community’s continuous support, especially through this difficult and challenging period, to assist in helping to provide for the welfare of the flood victims.
"Let us remember to be mindful of the community we are surrounded by to provide support and help to the best of our abilities. For what we have experienced in 2020, we continue to fight and strive better this year with a new mindset and goal,” said Phang.
In light of Happy New Year, Sunway Velocity Mall will also be giving out wishing ribbons to tie on the Prosperity Gate at the Main Atrium, Ground Floor for the first 2,000 redemptions.
For every wishing ribbon, Sunway Velocity Mall will donate RM3 to Pusat Penjagaan Warga Emas Chan, an old folks’ home to purchase household items for them.
The CNY redemptions are on-going throughout February 2021 and shoppers may continue to redeem the CNY merchandises whilst helping the old folks’ home.
Amidst that all, Sunway Velocity Mall will be providing lunch and poon choi (also known as big bowl feast) to the old folks’ home, which is composed of many layers of ingredients, served in a large wooden or porcelain basin called poon which signifies abundance, unity and prosperity.
