SF: LBS Executive Director Receives APEA 2016 Award For Outstanding Leadership In The Property Industry And Involvement In Nurturing Communities
Petaling Jaya, 29 August 2016 – The Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award (APEA) 2016 recently presented LBS Bina Group Berhad (LBS) Executive Director, Datuk Wira Joey Lim Hock Guan, with an award for his outstanding leadership in the construction, property and building materials industry.

Speaking about the future and Malaysia’s aspiring entrepreneurs, Datuk Wira Joey emphasised the importance of being bold and confident, and being able to present one’s point of view while remaining humble enough to continue learning from more experienced individuals. “Remember to remain driven in your passions, focused on your goals, and receptive to the needs of communities around you.
These are the key values that have formed me over the years. As Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States of America rightly said, be practical as well as generous in your ideals. Keep your eyes on the stars, but remember to keep your feet on the ground,” added Datuk Wira Joey.
Following an in-depth search and selection process, Datuk Wira Joey was among 43 other elite captains of industry who were hand-picked and awarded at the APEA 2016.
The nominations APEA received were analysed to identify if the entrepreneurs and companies displayed an evident entrepreneurial spirit with proven track records of strong business growth. Other key criteria included the practice of responsible entrepreneurship, market competitiveness, leadership qualities, innovation of products and services, vision and strategic direction, technology advancement, peer and industry recognition, investment in people as well as local and global impact.
Datuk Wira Joey’s journey began with his strong desire to help build the family business by pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) degree from the Tennessee Technological University in the United States of America. He embarked on a career as a civil engineer with LBS in 1986. Even at an early stage of his career, he remained focused and driven in his ambition to spearhead LBS to greater heights. In December 2001, Datuk Wira Joey was appointed as the Executive Director of LBS.
With over 20 years of extensive experience in property development and construction, the second son of LBS founder and Chairman, Dato’ Seri Lim Bok Seng, has been a significant driving force behind the successful implementation of residential and commercial development projects in the Klang Valley.
He has contributed significantly to the development of several high profile development projects, which include the award winning flagship township, Bandar Saujana Putra (BSP) with recognitions received at the Asia Pacific Property Awards (APPA) in 2015, and the recent South East Asia Property Awards 2016. Other developments include the D’ Island Residence, won the APPA in 2013 and the Telok Gong Industrial Park. He currently oversees the implementation of the well-received Desiran Bayu residential project in Puchong and the development of Alam Awana Industrial Park in Shah Alam.
Datuk Wira Joey’s exemplary leadership has earned him a seat on the board of several LBS subsidiary companies including Astana Modal (M) Sdn Bhd, Cergas Asal (M) Sdn Bhd, and MITC Engineering Sdn Bhd. He is also actively involved in the Group’s Risk Management Committee and Employee Shares Option Scheme (ESOS) Committee. On an international level, Datuk Wira Joey is also a Non-Executive Director of the Zhuhai Holdings Investment Group Limited, a company listed on the Main Board of Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
In the area of work ethics, Datuk Wira Joey constantly emphasises on the importance of self-discipline, from arriving to the office on time daily to completing tasks quickly and precisely. His professional work style centres upon practicality and common sense. Be it in developing layouts for living spaces, developing solutions or making decisions as an Executive Director, he crafts his work and direction with the perspective of his audience in mind.
Another key trait of Datuk Wira Joey is his personable approach when engaging with others, be it employees or marginalised communities.
Datuk Wira Joey is equally passionate about is his involvement with charitable foundations. His passion and dedication to contribute to the growth of the nation led him to be more involved with various community groups. He is recognised for his active involvement in various community organisations.
Datuk Wira Joey is a committee member of Rumah Berhala Leng Tien Keong, Kajang; Sungai Way Old Folks Homes, Selangor; Selangor & Kuala Lumpur Lim Clansmen Association; and Melaka Guangdong Investment Committee (MAGIC). He is also a member of the Council of Justices of The Peace of Selangor and the Malaysia Japan Economic Associations (MAJECA).
In addition, Datuk Wira Joey is the president of the Sungai Way Hokkien Association, the president of Selangor Petaling Business & Industry Association, and the vice president of the Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber of Investment Promotion (MGCIP).
