JOHOR BARU: A total of 23 small-scale contractors from the Johor Indian Small Contractors Association have been awarded road construction projects worth RM3.65mil.
Johor MIC chairman Datuk M. Asojan said the projects, under executing body Infra Desa Johor (IDJ), would be carried out in rural areas in the state and include widening and upgrading of roads.
“The projects will be carried out in two months from now and each contractor will be given one project to complete by this year,” he said before handing out the appointment letters at Johor MIC building in Jalan Segget here.
Asojan said about 120 contractors had applied for the programme and only 23 were selected based on requirements needed to carry out the projects.
He added that this would be the first phase of the programme and more contractors would be awarded other projects in the next round.
“The state government has always been committed to working directly with the contractors through the projects offered as well as identifying those who have the potential,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Indian Small Contractors Association chairman S. Suppayah said each project would cost below RM200,000 and urged the contractors to carry out the work well.
“I would like to congratulate those who have been selected for the programme as such initiatives help boost their income,” he said.
