PETALING JAYA: About 2,000 people participated in last week’s Kuala Lumpur Car Free Morning (KLCFM) organised by the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) and co-sponsored by Paramount Property. The non-competitive event is part of the Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Community 2030 initiative to promote green and healthy living.
Paramount Corporation Bhd group chief executive officer Jeffrey Chew together with DBKL culture, arts and tourism and sports director Naquib bin Hamdan flagged off the KLCFM at Dataran DBKL in the morning on 15 Dec.
Participants could walk or run or go on their non-motorised vehicles on either the 5km or 7km routes, or just go multiple rounds on a smaller route. Present as early as 6.30am, many of them came on bicycles, wheelchairs, prams, or on rollerblades. They would later receive prizes in lucky draws given out by Chew.
“This is our second outing, and we have seen how people enjoy themselves. We hope that our initiative will encourage more people to enjoy KL in a green and healthy manner, have fun as a community, and inspire more people to lower their individual carbon footprint in terms of consumption habits and energy use,” Chew said.
“Paramount is committed to lowering its carbon footprint and has developed a preliminary Climate Transition Pathway towards net zero emissions by 2050. We have also integrated our financial KPIs with operational KPIs to ensure that everyone is on board,” he added.
