The developer for this project is Sunway Grand Sdn Bhd which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sunway Group, and the project was completed in its entirety in March 2013.Units within Sunway Merica would feature only 3-storey buildings, either in the form of terrace houses or semi-detached houses. There would be a total of 9 blocks, containing a total of 98 units, with only 12 semi-detached units. The units are catered for medium-large sized families, and come with at least 4+1 bedrooms and the semi detached units have 5+2 bedrooms. All units come with solar water heater for the shower.Amenities are not far from Sunway Merica, as it is located just off Bayan Baru. Shopping complexes nearby include Giant Hypermart, Sunshine Square, Bukit Jambul Complex and Young Ones Shopping Centre. The Bayan Baru township has all the amenities, including banking facilities; whereas eateries could be found throughout Penang, the closest place to eat would be Tamen Seri Acres, where many restaurants could be found. There are many clinics in the vicinity and two hospitals as well, with the closest one being Hospital Pantai Mutiara.The area is accessible via Jalan Dato' Ismail Hashim. Sunway Merica is located towards the southern part of Penang, therefore not being at the heart of the city has its advantages. It is located very near to Penang Airport, which is less than 4 kilometers away. It is roughly 9 kilometers from the Penang Bridge, and less than 15 minutes in moderate traffic via Jalan Tun Awang.

Certain purchasers cite that the entrance to the development is too narrow, due to poor road planning. Other dislike the place due to it being sandwiched between two higher leveled developments. Certain prospective buyers were also put off by its close proximity to the cemetery and the low cost housing by SP Setia located in the vicinity. Being a predominantly chinese community in Penang, the "feng-shui" factor played a role in terms of pricing.Apart from that, build quality in developments by Sunway Group has always been satisfactory and there have been very few problems associated with the developer. Sub-sale prices are hovering around 400psf which is reasonable given the current climate in the property market. However, given the lack of facilities and not being gated nor guarded, RM400 psf could prove to be rather pricey.
